I graduated from Trinity College, Dublin in 1998 with an Honours Degree in Physiotherapy. I continued my studies for many years after in order to deepen my understanding of the physical body. This included a Masters Degree in Sports Medicine from TCD, which had a large focus on diving deeply into anatomy, physiology, and orthopedics, and a Masters Degree from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, in Manual Therapy, where the focus was on a deeper understanding of pain and how we could use manual techniques and neuroscience in the relief of pain.

I studied everything I could find about movement patterns and muscle imbalance, Pilates, visceral manipulation, dry needling, and more but I gradually began to sense that the issues that many people were presenting with were often not just physical. Despite all my training there were still many people who did not respond to physical treatments, so I decided to explore some more holistic approaches.

Other trainings:

  • Yoga and yoga therapy :

I had been practicing yoga myself since the age of 22 and had noticed in my own body the benefits of combining movement with breath and awareness. As a result, I went on to study yoga and yoga therapy, in both India and the US and began combining the practices I was learning with my manual work.

  • Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy 2 year diploma 2011-2013:

Through this training I began to understand the connections between the mind, the emotions and the nervous system, and how to release the tension we hold in our bodies. Most people are carrying unprocessed trauma in their systems which can manifest as a wide variety of symptoms, including fatigue, pain, autoimmune conditions, insomnia, hormonal disorders and digestive disorders. A simple definition of trauma is emotion or stress that was suppressed or held in, instead of being expressed and still lives in the tissues of the body.

  •  Somatic Movement Education: a beautiful method for connecting more deeply the body and mind and creates more easeful movement as well as bringing calm to the mind and nervous system.

  • Bodytalk: I became certified in this modality in 2018.

Based on principles of quantum physics, Indian philosophy, Chinese Medicine, and energy medicine it addresses many of the underlying subconscious patterns and belief systems that are affecting our experience of our health and our life.

  • Nervous system healing: In 2022, mostly due to personal health problems, I began to dive deeply into the study of the nervous system, since it is the controller of all the other systems in the body. I have incorporated these teachings into my own life and into my sessions and education of others because a dysregulated nervous system will block what the body is designed to do: heal itself. This continues to be my main area of study because everything in our lives, from our health to our relationships, to our capacity for growth and creativity, comes down to the health of our nervous systems.

I have now developed a tool box from which I can pick and choose, according to the needs of the individual. I believe that there is truly no separation between our mind, body and emotions and so we must learn how to cultivate a healthy relationship with all of these aspects of our being. This is a passion of mine, helping people to relate to their bodies in a new and healthy way.

At the crux of my approach is a deep trust in the intelligence of the human body that knows how to heal if we can learn how to provide the right environment.
