Whiplash/recovery from accident
When there has been a sudden injury the nervous system goes into protection mode. A force vector moves through your body at the moment of impact and usually gets stuck at an area that was previously stiff and thus less able to dissipate the force. The emotional fright also tends to get stuck in the tissues.
With the nervous system on high alert, the system is often too sensitive for traditional physiotherapy and a more delicate approach is called for.
In this scenario I use craniosacral therapy to allow the body to unwind the patterns that got stuck. After your nervous system has let down it’s guard then it will be able to receive and benefit from traditional manual therapy to release tension in joints and tissues. In this way proper circulation will return to the area so that healing can commence. My approach to this type of injury is that treatment should be painless in this early stage while we work to settle your system.
Gentle exercises that address your breathing, nervous system and extremely gentle spinal movements will support this process.
It doesn’t matter how long it has been since your accident, if you begin to meet the body in the right way, healing will occur.
